Dalton’s Atomic Theory
Matter is composed of small particles called atoms. Atoms are the smallest unit of an element and can participate in chemical changes
An element consists of only one type of atom. That atom’s mass is also a characteristic of that element and is the same for all atoms of that element.
All atoms of one element differ from atoms from all other elements
A compound consists of atoms of two or more elements, in a small whole number ratio. In a compound, the atoms of each of its elements are present in the same ratio
Atoms are neither created nor destroyed during a chemical change, but are just rearranged to yield substances that are different from those present before the change

if atoms are neither created nor destroyed, then the total mass of the matter after it changes from one type to another remains constant
