What is a computer?
A modern computer is a device which can receive information, process that information based upon the instructions of a program, and then return that information to the user.
The computer must be able to receive data from the "real world" and convert that data into a form it can manipulate
Input
the computer must be able to change the data based upon instructions in a program;
Process
the computer must be able to accept new instructions
Programmability
Storage
the computer must be able to retain the data it is given
the computer must be able to return the processed data to the user
output
the computer must be able to retain the data it is given
Storage
It was used to count and do math, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Abacus
was an ancient mechanical calculating device.

What was the Jacquard Loom used for
Was programmed to perform calculations.
Analytical engine
is a logical series of steps (instructions) to achieve a goal.
Algorithm
Was the first working programmable computers.

Colossus computers were built, with impressive speed and power for their time. However, these computers were specifically built for code-breaking, and so they were not Turing-complete.
