Phrase
A group of words that does not have a subject or a verb phrase.
Clause

Independent Clause

A phrase that starts with a preposition (e.g., in, out, toward) and provides information about location, time, or manner.
Infinitive Phrase
A phrase that starts with "to" followed by a verb.
Participial Phrase
A phrase that starts with a verb ending in "ing" or "ed" and functions as an adjective.
