Q: How would you check that the brakes are working before starting a journey?
A: Brakes should not feel spongy or slack. Test them as you set off. Vehicle should not pull to one side.
Q: Where would you find the information for recommended tyre pressures and how should they be checked?
A: In the manufacturer’s guide. Use a reliable pressure gauge, check and adjust when tyres are cold, include the spare tyre, and refit valve caps.
Q: How do you make sure your head restraint is correctly adjusted?
A: The rigid part should be at least as high as the eyes or top of ears and close to the back of the head. Some restraints may not be adjustable.
Q: How would you check tyres for sufficient tread depth and safety?
A: No cuts or bulges. Minimum 1.6mm tread depth across the central three-quarters of the tyre and around the entire circumference.

A: Turn on the ignition and operate the light switch. Walk around the vehicle to ensure all lights are functioning, including indicators and brake lights.

A: A warning light will illuminate if there’s a fault.

Q: How would you check engine oil level?
A: Identify dipstick, check oil level against min/max markers.
Q: How would you check engine coolant level?
A: Identify high/low markings on header tank or radiator cap, describe topping up.

A: Identify reservoir, check level against high/low markings.
