Plot
the action or sequence of events in a story

Antagonist
a character or force in a story who deceives, frustrates, or works against the main character, or protagonist, in some way.

Setting
the time and place in which the action of a literary work occurs

Protagonist
The main character in a story, often a good or heroic type.
Short Story
a brief fictional work. It usually contains one major conflict and at least one main character.
narrative hook
the part of the story where the central conflict is introduced and that catches the reader's attention
Exposition
The introductory material which gives the setting, creates the tone, presents the characters, and presents other facts necessary to understanding the story.
Rising Action
the series of struggles that builds a story or play toward a climax
Climax
usually the most intense point in the story
Falling Action
the part of a play or story that leads from the climax or turning point to the resolution
Resolution
the portion of the story in which the problem is solved. It comes after the climax and falling action and is intended to bring the story to a satisfactory end
conflict
opposition between or among characters or forces in a literary work that spurs or motivates the action of a plot (internal, man vs. self; external, man vs. man, supernatural, nature, society, technology)
internal conflict
a struggle between opposing needs, desires, or emotions within a single character; man vs. self.
external conflict
a problem or struggle between a character and someone or something outside of the character: man v. man., man v. nature, man v. society, man v. supernatural, man v technology
