components of a training session
warm up condtioning phase cool down
warm up
Allows for the athlete to gradually transition from a resting state to a state of readiness increases muscle elasticity decreases injury risk. consists of aerobic phase and dynamic stretching
cool down
enhances recovery and returns body to pre exercies levels consists of 2 phases active recovery and static stretching
conditioning phase
the actual training that develops the muscle groups fitness components and energy systems used in the activity
time/ duration
refers to the duration of the training program, session or exercise within a session
intensity
refers to the rate of perceived exertion conducting when training
Type
refers to what the individual is doing within their training program mainly what the training method is
Specificity
refers to the process of replicating the characteristics of physical activity to ensure it benefits performance
progression
a planned increase in training stimulus to cause a positive long term adaptation training improvements occur as our bodies adapt to new stresses
diminishing returns
the rate of fitness improvement diminishes as the person comes closer to their genetic potential
variety
in a training program is the need to introduce different exercises, skill drills, and formats to stimulate challenge and interest in the athlete
individuality
individual responses to physical activity and adapting programs to fit that
maintenance
once an ideal level of fitness is acheived the level of effort to maintain is lower so training volume is decreased
Tapering
gradually reducing training load allowing their body to adapt and repair, in the days leading up to an event
overtraining
a long term decline in performance associated with inadequate time to recover and adapt to training stresses
Detraining
when training stops or is reduced beyond what is required to maintain levels of fitness
