Polymer also called plastics or synethics are long chain organic molecules

The simplest unit of a polymer is a monomer

Outline process of additon polymerisaiton

  1. Initiation - free radical is added to the monomer (by dissociating the double bond) forming a new free radical species

  2. Propagation - this new free radical fidns another monomer unti it and repeats

  3. Termination - Eventually the growing free radical comes into contact with another and the upaired electrons come together to form a covalent bond connecting the chains
