Made up of united farmers and industrial workers, the main issue was that the government did not pay mind to the farmers and had a horrible banking system making crop prices plummet, inflated RXR prices,debt, and deflationary currency.
2. How did the Farmer’s Alliance help farmers economically?=
It helped create a better system for farmers which was easier for them to get sales by selling bulk products with multiple farmers.
3. Explain how and why the People’s Party was formed.=
It was formed by and from the farmers alliance because they believed money and banking systems were only an advantage to few.
4. Explain the platform of the People’s party.=
They wanted low credit rates,subsidize crops until prices rose, land reform(RXR), free silver movement. It also started to form another political view.
5. Name issues facing workers living in the company town (Pullman Illinois)
.=Everything was being controlled in a company town which made it hard to leave because they used company currency. They would also cut wages a lot and have high rent.
6. Why was the American Railway Union formed and who led it?
=Eugene Debs led the ARU, it was an industrialized union and formed because they wanted to overcome the weakness of fragmented unions, which let railroads defeat isolated strikes.
7. What was Coxey’s Army and what did they want?=
It was a group of unemployed workers that took a march to Washington DC to speak out against congress, following the panic of 1893.
8. How did the media respond to Coxey’s march?=
It became a media sensation called the petition in boots.
9. What was the platform William McKinley and William J. Bryan used in the 1896 election?=
They both believed in the national monetary system while Mckinley was a republican(gold standard) while Bryan was a democrat(free silver).
10. What impact did the Populist Party have on the 1896 election?=
The populist party impacted Bryan because they agreed with him, they then entered their own representative tom watson.

Because they were looking more towards security(navel bases, etc) then settlements and colonization.

Stating that European countries could no longer colonize or interfere with sovereign nations in the Americas and in return the U.S. would stay neutral in European affairs and wars.

Yellow journalism was misleading and took information and ran with it. When covering the war in newspapers it would twist the truth making the war harder to fight

=The mysterious sinking provoked a war with Spain because of all the casualties.

Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Philippines.

They hoped to secure independence for Cuba.

The treaty that brought peace between Spain and America ending the war, America gained Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines.

Asserting U.S. dominance, it established the relationship between Cuba and the U.S.but also banned Cuba from signing any treaties that could possibly lead to independence

Social darwinism and social gospel, gospel was bringing the christian aspect into politics and Darwinism is the belief of survival of the fittest and is very racist.

=The rise in jobs including law, med,teaching, religion, business, and more.rise of young education for young women and men.

Journalists and writers needed to take dramatic action to expose corruption, exploitation,etc. Spread public awareness of the situations that formed public outrage and it unraveled from there.

Is the belief that society could perfect human beings and eliminate social ills through genetics(natural selection)

Wrote a book and speeches about how companies should be correctly managed, showing they should know every aspect of the jobs below them to be fit managers

Gave interstate commerce commission the power to examine records of private businesses to be set aside rates. It was so effective because it gave the ICC actual rates, etc.

Was a letter to Mexico stating Germany will become allies with Mexico to defeat the U.S. but was intercepted by Britain and shown to the U.S and was the reason they are in the war

The sent 2 mil $ aid to Britain and upped the trade with Britain by 400% because of the blockade
