What are the different types of joints int he human body?
Synovial, Cartilaginous, Fibrous.
How many joints in the body are synovial
6
what are the 6 synovial joints of the body?
‘People Can’t Skate Holding Big Pizzas’
Plane, Condyloid, Saddle, Hinge, Ball-and-socket, Saddle, Pivot
How many joints are cartilaginous joints?
2
What are the names of the two cartilaginous joints?
Synchondroses, Symphyses
What is the difference between a synchondroses and a symphyses joint?
Synchondroses – joined by hyaline cartilage
Symphyses – joined by fibrocartilage
How many fibrous joints are there?
3
What are the names the fibrous joints? e.g “Skull, Shin, Gums”
Sutures, Syndesmoses, Gomphoses
Found in the wrist (intercarpal joints) and acromioclavicular joint. This synovial joint is nonaxial, allowing gliding/sliding movements.
Pla—Gl-
Plane (Gliding) Joint
Found in the elbow and interphalangeal joints. This synovial joint is uniaxial, allowing flexion and extension in the sagittal plane.
Hi-
Hinge Joint
Found in the shoulder and hip. This synovial joint is multiaxial, allowing movement in all planes including rotation.
Ba & So
Ball & Socket Joint
Found between the atlas and axis (C1–C2 vertebrae) and the proximal radioulnar joint. This synovial joint is uniaxial, allowing rotation in the transverse plane.
Piv
Pivot Joint
Found at the wrist (radiocarpal joint) and knuckles (metacarpophalangeal joints). This synovial joint is biaxial, allowing flexion/extension and abduction/adduction.
Eli
Ellipsoid (Condyloid) Joint
Found at the base of the thumb (carpometacarpal joint). This synovial joint is biaxial with slight rotation, allowing flexion/extension and abduction/adduction.
Sad
Saddle Joint
Found between the bones of the skull. This fibrous joint is immovable (synarthrosis).
Su
Suture
Found between the tibia and fibula at the ankle. This fibrous joint allows slight movement (amphiarthrosis).
Syndesmosis
Found between teeth and their sockets. This fibrous joint is immovable (synarthrosis).
Gomphosis
Cartilaginous joint: Found at the growth plates in children (epiphyseal plates). This cartilaginous joint is immovable (synarthrosis).
Synchondrosis
Cartilaginous joint: Found at the pubic symphysis and intervertebral discs. This cartilaginous joint allows slight movement (amphiarthrosis).
Symphysis
