Head of State
The ceremonial head/representative of the United States.
Chief Executive
The President sees that the laws of Congress are carried out and executed. They are also in charge of all the people/departments found in the Executive Branch.
Chief Legislator
The President is expected to suggest legislation/laws that he or she wishes to see enacted. Can be promoted during State of the Union Address.
Head of Party
The viewed leader of the political party they belong to. Barack Obama is expected to support and promote the Democratic party.
Commander-in-Chief
All of the nation's armed forces/military are under the control of the President.
Presidential Requirements
Must be at least 35 years old, a natural-born citizen of the US, and a resident for at least 14 years.
President
Chief Executive of the United States, Head of State and Commander and Chief of the US Armed Forces. The President of the United States is elected every 4 years, by the Electoral College. Signs or veto's bills passed to them by Congress.
Role of Executive Branch
The role of this branch of government is to carry out and enforce laws. A person in this branch can veto laws, pardon people, and appoint federal judges.
Executive order
A rule or order issued by the president that has the force of law - does not need the approval of Congress
Appointments
Power of the president to appoint office positions. Ex: cabinet members, Attorney General, U.S. Marshalls, Ambassador. REQUIRES Senate approval.
Nominate judges
Power of the president to nominate judges. Requires Senate approval
Treaties
Legal agreements with foreign Heads of State. Must be approved by the Senate with a 2/3 majority vote.
Pardon
Presidential power to forgive someone of their crime
Bureaucracy
A large system of managing government through departments run by appointed officials in the executive branch in order to carry out the laws
Cabinet
Advisory council for the president consisting of the heads of the executive departments, the vice president, and a few other officials selected by the president.
Secretary
An official who heads an executive department in the federal government
Line of Succession for President
Vice president, speaker of the house, president pro tempore of the Senate, secretary of state
25th Amendment
(1) Succession of VP if president dies or become incapable to do his job.(2) if there is no VP, president must appoint one, and congress must approve

executive agency responsible for enforcing laws pertaining to a certain industry, the agency writes guidelines for the industry, such as safety codes, and enforces them through methods such as inspection

The power to keep executive communications confidential, especially if they relate to national security.

Directs U.S. foreign policies with other nations by negotiating treaties (with senate consent) and receiving ambassadors.
