Irony
Literary device that involves a contrast between expectation and reality. It refers to situations that occur differently or opposite then what was expected. It creates suspense, humor, tension, or suspense by preventing situations in a way that is different from what is expected.
Situational Irony
Occurs when the acutal outcome of a situation is different or opposite from what was expected.
Dramatic Irony
When the audience or reader knows more about a situation than the characyers do and that information contradicts what the character knows.
Verbal Irony
When someone says one thing but means the opposite often similar to sarcasam.
