What is a unicellular organism?
An organism made of a single cell capable of performing all essential life functions.
What does the cell theory state?
All living organisms are made up of cells and the cell is the fundamental structural and functional unit of life.
Who coined the term 'cell'?
Robert Hooke in 1665.
What did Anton Von Leeuwenhoek discover?
He discovered living cells in samples of rain water, pond water, and tooth scum.
What are the minimum requirements for something to be considered a cell?
Cytoplasm, cell membrane, and DNA.
What is the primary difference between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells?
Prokaryotic cells lack a nuclear membrane and histone-associated DNA; eukaryotic cells have a defined nucleus and linear DNA.
What is the function of ribosomes?
They are required for protein synthesis during the translation process.
Who proposed the hypothesis that all animals are made of cells?
Theodor Schwann.
What does 'Omnis cellula e cellula' mean?
All cells arise from pre-existing cells, a concept proposed by Rudolf Virchow.
What is the smallest known cell?
