Main consequences
^^1)Nixon’s reputation was ruined^^: nicknamed “Tricky Dicky,” the achievements of his term were, in the short-term, ignored.

2)The Republican Party lost many of their seats in the next election, resulting in a ^^massive change in government staff^^. 3)Voters began to increasingly value apparent honesty (e.g.: the Democratic choice of Jimmy Carter).

^^3)Many Americans were disillusioned with both politicians and politics following the Watergate scandal.^^

4)The ^^media benefited^^ from a boost in investigate journalism, though some scandals were published on flimsy evidence.

5)To try and restore public faith in government, Congress passed ^^new laws limiting the president’s power^^ (1973), setting limits on election campaign spending (1974) and setting rules on how government could collect information about individuals.
