Alley
A public space, public park or thoroughfare less than 3m but not less than 2m in width which has been dedicated or deeded to the public for use.
Ball joint
A connection in which a ball is held in a cup like shell that allows movement in any direction.
Branch vent
A vent pipe connecting from a branch of a drainage system to a vent stack.
Cap
A fitting into which the end of a pipe is screwed for the purpose of closing the end of the pipe.
Corporation cock
A stop valve placed in a service pipe near its connection with the water main.
Dead end
The extended portion of a pipe that is closed at one end to which no connections are made, permitting the stagnation of water or air therein.
Globe valve
A valve in which the flow of water is cut-off by means of a circular disc parallel to the normal direction of flow, where water is turned through a tortuous passage to the face of the disc.
House sewer
The part of a plumbing system extending from a point of about 1.20m to 1.50m from the inner face of the foundation wall of a building to any point of discharge.
Interceptor
A receptacle designed and constructed to separate and prevent the passage of oil, grease, lard or other materials into the drainage system.
Privy
An outhouse or structure used for deposition of excrement in a rural area.
Trap seal
The water retained in a fixture trap after flushing; defined as the vertical distance between the dip and the crown weir of a trap.
Sump pit
A pit or receptacle at the lowest point of a basement floor to which liquid wastes are drained.
Stand pipe
A vertical pipe usually used for the storage of water, frequently under pressure.
Unit vent
An arrangement of venting so installed that one vent pipe will serve two traps.
Wet vent
A portion of a vent pipe system through which liquid waste also flows.
Surface water
That portion of the rainfall or other precipitation which runs off on the ground surface after a storm.
Hub
A portion of a pipe which is for a short distance sufficiently enlarged to receive the end of another pipe.
Branch
Any part of the piping system in a roughing-in installation other than the main riser or stack.
Back water valve
A suitable valve equipped to a basement drain inlet that is subjected to backflow.

Yoke vent
A pipe connecting upward from a soil or waste stack to an adjacent vent stack to prevent pressure changes in the stacks.
Yard
An open, unoccupied space, other than a court, unobstructed from the ground to the sky, except where specifically provided in the Code.
Welded joint
Any joint or seam obtained by the joining of metal parts in a plastic molten state.
Ferrule
A metallic sleeve joined to an opening in a pipe into which a plug is screwed that can be removed for cleaning and examining the interior.
Potable water
Water satisfy for drinking, culinary and domestic purposes meeting the requirements of the health authority having jurisdiction.
Developed length
The length along the center line of the pipe and fittings.
Back flow
The flow of water into the water supply system from any source other than its intended sources.
Local vent
A pipe or shaft used to remove foul or congested air from a fixture or a room and convey it to the atmosphere.
Check valve
A valve which automatically closes to stop the flow of water in a reverse direction.
Section 21 (NPC)
The section of the National Plumbing Code that allows reciprocity in the practice of the Plumbing Profession between the Philippines and other countries.
Blow-off
A controlled outlet of a pipeline used to discharge water or detritus.
Ball cock
A faucet opened or closed by the fall or rise of a ball floating on the surface of water.
Air Test Pressure
An air pressure application maintained for 10min at 3psi for each section of the plumbing system being tested.
Minimum Water Tank Capacity
The minimum capacity needed for a complete water closet flushing is 3gallons.
Foundation Sleeve Size
Sleeves protecting pipe passing through foundation walls should be 2 sizes larger than the pipe.
