Electron Geometry
The arrangement of electron groups around a central atom.
Molecular Geometry
The three-dimensional arrangement of atoms in a molecule.
Linear
A molecular geometry with bond angles of 180º.
Trigonal Planar
A molecular geometry with bond angles of 120º.
Bent
A molecular shape observed when there are one or more lone pairs on the central atom, resulting in bond angles less than 120º.
Tetrahedral
A molecular geometry with four electron groups around the central atom, bond angles of 109.5º.
Trigonal Pyramidal
A molecular geometry with three bonded atoms and one lone pair, bond angle of approximately 107º.
Octahedral
A molecular geometry with six electron groups around the central atom, bond angles of 90º.
Square Planar
A molecular shape with four bonded atoms and two lone pairs on the central atom, bond angles of 90º.
Bond Angles
The angles between adjacent bonds at an atom, affected by lone pairs and bonded atoms.
