Alkane
A hydrocarbon containing only single C-H and C-C bonds, represented by the general formula CnH2n+2.
Alkene
A hydrocarbon that contains at least one C=C double bond, represented by the general formula CnH2n.
Alkyne
A hydrocarbon that contains at least one C≡C triple bond, represented by the general formula CnH2n-2.
Alcohol
An organic compound containing a hydroxyl (-OH) group, with the general formula R-OH.
Ether
An organic compound with the general structure R-O-R, where R can be a hydrocarbon chain.
Aldehyde
An organic compound with the functional group -CHO, where R is a hydrocarbon group.
Ketone
An organic compound containing a carbonyl group (C=O), with general formula RC(=O)R'.
Carboxylic Acid
An organic compound containing a carboxyl group (-COOH) or (-CO2H), represented by -oic acid.
Aromatic Compound
A stable, cyclic compound containing resonance structures, often derived from benzene.
Alkyl Halide
A hydrocarbon derivative containing a halogen atom (F, Cl, Br, I) bonded to an alkyl group.
