What is the dermis?
A deeper, thicker, layer of skin made up of dense fiburous connective tissue
What is interspersed throughout the dermis?
Collagenous and elastic fibers, and some adipose cells

Regulates body temp. and supplies nutrients to the epidermis

What is the epidermis made of?
Stratified squamous epithelium arranged in 4 or 5 layers
What occurs in the stratum spinosum?
Mitosis occurs as the cell are pushed out towards the surface and begin to flatten out
Where is the Strantum granulosum located?
Superficial to the stratum spinosum

Stratum Lucidum appearance and thickness
Clear and 2-3 layers thick
