1960s decline: offices and commerical developments - deline in residential population
Derelict land: 13acre site became abandoned and was targeted for commercial development - hotel - would displace many families
Coin Street Action Group - campaignes for affordable housing and open spaces
1984 - Greater London Council helped the ation group to buy the land at a reduced price
Formation of CSCB: Coin Street Community Builders - non-profit group responsible for development and management
Secured loans from the GLC , Greater London Enterprise Board and private mortgages
Only local residents could join the CSCB ensuring community-led decision-making and long term stewardship
How did they achieve what they wanted?

Planning regulations to limit commercial development
Financed projects through loans, grants, money from temp land uses (e.g. car park)
