Bay
Part of a large body of water that extends into a shoreline, smaller than a gulf.
Beach
The land along the edge of a body of water consisting of loose particles such as sand, gravel, or pebbles.
Cape
Point of land that extends into a river, lake, or ocean.
Channel
A wide strait or waterway between two landmasses that lie close to each other.
Cliff
The high, steep face of rock or soil.
Desert
A barren area of landscape where little precipitation occurs.
Hill
The landform that rises above the surrounding terrain and is lower and more rounded than a mountain.
Island
A piece of land surrounded by water.
Isthmus
Narrow stretch of land connecting two larger land areas.
Ocean
A large body of saltwater that surrounds the continents; one of the five major oceans.
Pond
A body of standing water that is smaller than a lake; it can be natural or artificial.
River
A natural body of moving water; a large natural stream of water that runs through the land.
Valley
A low area between hills or mountains often with a river running through it.
Volcano
A mountain formed as liquid rock or ash erupts from inside the earth.
