what is the aim of SDG 3?

to promote physical and mental health and wellbeing and extend life expectancy by addressing the major causes of morbidity and mortality

what are the key features of SDG 3?

reduce maternal mortality, end all preventable deaths under five, fight communicable diseases, reduce mortality from non communicable diseases and promote mental health, prevent and treat substance abuse, reduce road injuries and deaths, reduce illness and death from hazardous chemicals, achieve universal health coverage, improve early warning systems for global health risks

what are the most common causes of maternal mortality + how to prevent?

haemorrhage, sepsis, unsafe abortion. provide sexual and reproductive healthcare services, access to skilled healthcare, access to immunisation, access to nutritious food, provision of safe water

what is AIDS an how can it be prevented? (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome)

caused by HIV which damages and weakens the bodies immune system leading to a higher risk of developing infections, cancers and other diseases. actions include removing barriers to discrimination, investing in healthcare services so everyone has access to diagnosis and ART treatment, increase knowledge and understanding of HIV and AIDS

what is malaria and how can it be prevented?

life threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people when bitten by a female mosquito destroying the bodies red blood cells causing fever and vomiting. actions include fund healthcare services and professionals, research and development for more effective drugs and vaccines, more access to the indoor spraying of homes

what is tuberculosis and how can it be prevented?

caused by bacteria and results in tiredness and persistent coughing, causing lung damage and/or death. actions include providing universal health coverage, more trained health workers, research and development for more effective drugs and vaccines

what is neglected tropical diseases and how can it be prevented?

a group of 20 diseases and conditions that mainly occur in tropical and subtropical environments caused by a variety of pathogens including viruses, bacteria, parasites, fungi and toxins. actions include vector control to remove carriers of the disease, new safe and effective drugs

what is hepatitis and how can it be prevented?

inflammation of the liver caused by a viral infection. actions include promoting universal health coverage, large scale vaccination programs, access to safe water and sanitation

what are non communicable diseases and how can they be prevented?

four main are cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory disease which are primarily caused by tobacco use, unhealthy diets, physical inactivity and excessive consumption of alcohol. prevented by taxes on alcohol and tobacco, easy to understand food labelling, universal health coverage, expand health promotion services

how can mental disorders be prevented?

increase funding for universal health coverage, increase the priority for the promotion of mental health and wellbeing, develop ant discrimination laws

how can road traffic accidents be prevented?

invest in road infrastructure, increase funding for road safety education, law enforcement
