Preparing Your Workstation

What should you consider when preparing your treatment area?

• tools and equipment must be sterilized

• ambiance should be relaxing but also professional

• there should be good lighting

• room should be a comfortable temperature considering your client will be undressing

What should you consider when preparing yourself?

• always wear clean uniform

• always wear a disposable or washed apron

• wear professional but comfortable shoes with a low heel

• wear disposable gloves

Who should you perform a patch test on?

Clients coming to a treatment for the first time or one that has a history of allergies

Where and when do you perform a patch test?

On the wrist, 24 hours before treatment

What are symptoms of an allergic reaction to a patch test?

• itchiness

• swelling

• redness

• rash

What is the procedure for a thermal / heat sensitivity test?

• apply on the inside of your own wrist and

• then on your clients wrist.

What are some hygiene guidelines to follow:

• pre-cleansing lotions must have antibacterial properties

• clean the clients feet

• do not reuse wax

• use disposable spatulas

Guidelines when draping your client:

• avoid unnecessarily exposing your client

• only the area being waxed should be exposed

• put paper towels over the boobtube for underarm wax

• use an electric blanket in cold weather
