Psychopathology
A study of psychological disorders, characterized by subjective discomfort, unhappiness, anxiety, and emotional distress.
Abnormal Behavior
Behavior that is maladaptive and may lead to distress or dysfunction in social, work, or school settings.
DSM
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual used for diagnosing psychological disorders.
Continuum of Mental Health
Mental health exists on a spectrum, where individuals may experience varying levels of psychological well-being.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
A disorder characterized by excessive worry and anxiety about a range of issues persisting for at least 6 months.
Panic Disorder
A disorder characterized by sudden and repeated panic attacks, and fear of future attacks.
Agoraphobia
An intense fear of having a panic attack in public, leading to avoidance of certain situations.
Schizophrenia
A severe mental disorder characterized by disorganized thinking, hallucinations, and delusions.
Mood Disorders
Mental disorders that primarily affect a person's emotional state, including depression and bipolar disorder.
Cognitive Disorders
Disorders affecting memory and cognition due to medical conditions, including delirium and dementia.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
A disorder characterized by unwanted repetitive thoughts (obsessions) and/or actions (compulsions).
Substance-Related Disorders
Disorders related to the consumption of alcohol or drugs that lead to clinically significant impairment.
Personality Disorders
Deeply ingrained maladaptive personality traits that differ markedly from cultural expectations and lead to dysfunction.
Adjustment Disorders
Psychological responses to stressful life events, which may result in emotional or behavioral symptoms.
Dissociative Disorders
Disorders characterized by disruptions in consciousness, memory, identity, or perception of the environment.
Somatoform Disorders
Disorders characterized by physical symptoms that suggest medical conditions but are not fully explained by a medical diagnosis.
Eating Disorders
Disorders relating to extreme eating behaviors, including anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.
