Cell/battery
provides the circuit with a source of potential difference (energy per unit charge)

switch
turns the circuit on (closed) or off (open)

fixed resistor
a resistor that limits the flow of current. cannot change.

variable resistor
a resistor with a slider that can be used to change its resistance.

thermistor
the resistance depends on its temp. As temp increases, resistance decreases (voltage increases)

LDR (Light- dependent resistor)
resistance depends on light intensity. As the light intensity increases, its resistance decreases (voltage increases)

motor
converts electrical energy into kinetic energy

diode
allows current to only flow in one direction. Converts AC to DC current

LED (light-emitting diode)
equivalent to a diode emits light when a current passes through

ammeter
measures CURRENT in a circuit. Connected in SERIES.

voltmeter
measures POTENTIAL DIFFERENCE (voltage) of an electrical component. Connected in PARALLEL with the component

Lamp
converts electrical energy into visible light radiation
