According to the operations management guidelines, what positive results are obtained by 'doing things right the first time' and 'doing things right every time'?
'Doing things right the first time' can lead to higher quality, and 'doing things right every time' can lead to lower variability.
What five main categories are identified for classifying process types for manufacturers?
Project processes, jobbing processes, batch processes, mass processes, and continuous or repetitive systems.
What three main categories are identified for classifying operational processes of service providers?
Professional services, service shops, and mass services.
What are the four basic layout types for manufacturing or service-provision facilities?
Fixed-position layout, process layout, product layout, and cellular layout.
In job design, how does method study differ from work measurement?
Method study is the systematic recording and critical investigation of work methods to develop easier and more effective methods to reduce costs, while work measurement determines how long it takes a trained and qualified worker to perform a specific task at a fixed level of performance.
How is quality defined from an operations management perspective, and what is the quality gap?
Quality is defined as consistent conformity to customer/client expectations, and the quality gap is the difference between expected quality and perceived quality.
What five headings outline the guidelines included in the ISO 9000 document for quality systems?
Documentation requirements, management responsibility, resource management, product realisation, and measurement, analysis and improvement.
