CPHEEO
Central Public Health & Environmental Engineering Organization, the body under MoUD that develops official GOI manuals for water supply, sewerage, and solid waste management.
MoUD
Ministry of Urban Development, the ministry under which CPHEEO functions to formulate national guidelines and manuals for environmental engineering.
Water Demand
The estimated quantity of water required for a municipal water supply scheme, calculated using forecasted population and per capita consumption rate.
Design Period
The time horizon in years for which a water supply scheme or engineering facility is designed to meet future population needs.
lpcd
Litres per capita per day, the unit used to express the daily rate of water consumption per person.
IS 10500
The Indian Standard code specifying drinking water quality parameters, key points, and permissible limits.
Water Act of 1974
The Indian legislation that extensively reformed water treatment practices and whose standards are incorporated into GOI manuals and IS codes.
Water Supply Engineering
Part 1 of Environmental Engineering, covering water demand, sub-surface and surface water sources, quality parameters, treatment processes, and distribution networks.
Waste Water Engineering
Part 2 of Environmental Engineering, covering wastewater microbiology, quality characteristics, disposal mechanisms, treatment facilities, and sewer design.
Solid Waste Management
Chapter 11 topic dealing with municipal solid waste sources, classification, generation characteristics, collection, energy recovery, and final disposal.
Air Pollution
Chapter 12 topic covering air pollutant types, impacts, control systems, meteorology, lapse rates, atmosphere types, plume behavior, and air quality limits.
Noise Pollution
Chapter 13 topic dealing with permissible noise limits, noise measurement, control methods, and terms such as Leq and Ln.
GOI Manual on Water Supply & Treatment, 1999
A standard reference manual developed by CPHEEO providing official guidelines for water supply and treatment.
GOI Manual on Sewerage and Sewage Treatment, 2013
A three-part (Parts A, B & C) manual developed by CPHEEO providing comprehensive engineering standards for sewerage systems.
GOI Manual on Municipal Solid Waste Management, 2016
An official manual developed by CPHEEO outlining procedures for solid waste characteristics, collection, energy generation, and disposal.
