Serial Motor Skills
Made up of several discrete skills which are put together in a certain order
Open Skill
Where the performer is required to have flexibility and adaptation in the execution of a skill under a constantly changing enviroment or time pressure
Closed Skill
Where the performer has the greatest control over their performance environment and usuallay requires repetition of a succesful movement pattern
Cognitive Stage
the initial pahse in learning a motor skill is where the emphasis is on a cocncious understanding of the tasks requirements
Verbal Cue
A short task orientated phrase that directs a performer’s attention to task relevant stimuli to ehance performance
Proprioceptive Cue
Internal feedback that comes from sensory receptors found in joints, tendons and muscles, detailing body’s position, posture and equilibrium
Kinaesthetic Information
Information from within the body about how the movement felt and can be used by experienced performers to change their next performance
Extrinsic (augmented) feedback
Information received from outside of the body. It is received by the sensory system and is seen, felt or heard and is delivered by a coach or instructor
Terminal extrinsic feedback
feedback by an external source after the movement has been completed
knowledge of performance
Subjective feedback that a performer receives regarding the quality of their movement or technique
