Impermeable
A condition in which solute cannot pass through a membrane, causing water to move to dilute the solute.
Glucose-6-Phosphate
The phosphorylated form of glucose formed upon entry into the cell, which prevents glucose from passing back out through the membrane.
Electrical Gradient
The difference in charge across a cell membrane between the outside (+) and inside (−), where moving charges function as energy.
Resting Membrane Potential
The steady electrical potential difference across a cell membrane at rest, shown at −70mV and maintained with the help of Na+ and K+ channels.
Moving Charges
The movement of charged particles across the cell membrane, which represents cellular electrical energy.
