What is the generalisability?

😞😞 – No women – may have behaved differently so it is androcentric so findings cannot be generalised into obedience as sample is not representative

CA- The sample included a range of occupations and socio economic status and a range of ages so study could be generalised to other people in target population

What is the reliability?

🙂🙂 – standardised - confederates played by same actors, experimental responses were highly scripted and prods were in the same order and tone.

Study into obedience is replicable and has been tested by burger which increases reliability

CA- Perry argues experimental went off script suggests study may not be so standardised or reliable

6

What is the application?

Findings have been applied to pilot training

7

What is the validity?

😞😞 – participants may only have obeyed because they did not believe shocks are real (suggested by Orne and Holland)

CA- Milgram counter argument these claims and said he observed anxiety and stress levels of participants – High internal validity

😞😞 - lacks ecological validity it is not a true representation of real obedience, so, lacks mundane realism

CA- milligrams findings supported by study in realistic environment with a realistic task i.e. Hoffing- there is external validity milgram
