Case Series
A report that describes a group of individuals who have the same disease or disorder or who have undergone the same procedure.
Case-Control Study
A study that compares the exposure histories of people with disease (cases) and people without disease (controls).
Case Definition
A clearly defined list of inclusion and exclusion criteria that must be met for an individual to be classified in a study.
Selection Bias
Bias that occurs if selection depends on exposure and disease, common in case-control studies.
Recall Bias
Bias that occurs when cases and controls systematically have different memories of the past.
Odds Ratio (OR)
A measure of association that summarizes the relationship between an exposure and a disease outcome.
Proportionate Mortality Rate (PMR)
The proportion of deaths in a population during a particular time period that were attributable to a particular cause.
Case Fatality Rate (CFR)
The proportion of people with a particular disease who die as a result of that condition.
ICD Codes
International Classification of Diseases codes used for defining diagnoses in health studies.
Descriptive Statistics
Statistics used to summarize or describe characteristics of a data set, and are the key statistical measures in a case series.
