In our second trial, we had we had more consistency in the decrease of fluorescence in the metal-QD solutions, among which are copper and zinc, which are metals that contaminate the waters in Peru. This shows promising data that equine hoof trimmings can be an efficient accessible way to detect metals in Peruvian water. Protecting children from dangerous metals and reassuring the people of Peru.
Overall, the study provides a starting point for the future of creating CQDs from equine hooves, which are beneficial methods for detecting toxins in contaminated Peruvian water sources. As the CQDs are deeply concentrated, a small vile of these cheap and accessible dots have shown they can be used to detect high levels of interactions of toxins, which can ultimately contribute to water purification efforts, positively impacting communities in Peru. Though our experiment had some bumps, there is no doubt that Equine hoof quantum dots can be a successful method for detecting metal contaminates in Peru.
