Domestic Servitude
Victims being forced to work in private households under conditions of abuse and exploitation.
Prostitution/Sex Trafficking
Exploitation of individuals sexually for own benefit through force, fraud, etc.
Forced Marriage
Marriage without free and full consent (one party or both), against their will.
Forced (Physical) Labor
Individuals forced to work against their will, often mistreated, little to no pay and under threat of violence.
Bonded Labor
A person's labor is demanded as security for the repayment of a debt.
Child Labor/Exploitation
Forcing minors to work for own benefit (deprives them of their childhood).
Seligman’s theory (learned helplessness)
After repeated exposure to uncontrollable negative situations, individuals may develop a sense of helplessness and believe they have no control over their situation/nothing will change outcome
Cognitive Dissonance
Refers to the mental discomfort experienced when holding conflicting beliefs, values, or attitudes. To reduce this discomfort, people may change their beliefs/make justifications to align with their actions.
