Terms
The parts of an expression that are added or subtracted together.
Coefficient
The number located in front of a variable.
Constant Term
A number in an expression that does not have a variable.
Like Terms
Terms that have identical variable parts, meaning they must have the SAME VARIABLE and the SAME EXPONENT.
Examples of Like Terms
Groups such as (x, 3x, −5x, 5x), (y2, 2y2, −7y2, −3y2), and (ab, 5ab, −2ab, 8ab).
Examples of Unlike Terms
Pairs such as (x and x2), (y and y2), (x and 3), (z and z), or (x and y).
Expression Example: 7x3−2x2+5y−z+5
An expression containing 5 terms, including coefficients like 7 and −2, and a constant term of 5.
