SIX SIGMA, LEAN
2 Other Tools of Quality Systems Management
SIX SIGMA
• It is a performance improvement program
• The goal of which can be summarized by the
mantra “improvement by eliminating process
variation”.
DEFINE, MEASURE, ANALYZE, IMPROVE, CONTROL
5 Six Sigma Steps
DEFINE
• Project good or other deliverable that is critical to
quality
MEASURE
• Baseline performance & related variables
ANALYZE
• This involves the data using statistics or graphs
in order for us to identify and quantify the root
cause.
IMPROVE
• Involves performance by developing and
implementing a solution.
CONTROL
• Factors related to improvement, verify impact,
validate benefits & monitor overtime.
LEAN
• Utilizes techniques that would determine the
work activities that do not directly add to the
delivery of the laboratory services in the most
cost effective ways.
UTILIZES FEWER RESOURCES, REDUCES COST, ENHANCES PRODUCTIVITY, PROMOTES STAFF MORALE, IMPROVES QUALITY OF PATIENT CARE
Lean Laboratories do:
INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ORGANIZATION
ISO
• They establish guidelines that would reflect the
highest level of quality
COLLEGE OF AMERICAN PATHOLOGIST, ISO 15189: 2007
CAP
They adapted _________
CLINICAL AND LABORATORY STANDARD INSTITUTE
CLSI
• They created the 12 quality system essentials
based on ISO standards.
ORGANIZATION, PERSONNEL, DOCUMENTS AND RECORDS, FACILITIES AND SAFETY, EQUIPMENT
Give at least 5 Quality System Essentials
