Dance
A series of movements that follow the speed and rhythm of a piece of music, involving body movements of the hand, arm, and head, as well as moving from one space to another.
Dance Therapy
A practice where the experience of dancing helps a person to heal from within, serving as a form of expression to bring forth who they are and what they are passionate about.
Ballroom Dance
One of the most entertaining and elite styles of dancing that originated in Germany; it was initially for the privileged class of socialites and involves dancing with a partner.
Tango
A ballroom dance style where the male leads the female partner and the choreography varies between International Standard and American styles.
Waltz
A graceful ballroom dance performed to melodic, slow music that requires fluidity and delicate movement.
Viennese Waltz
A style of ballroom dance based on the original form of the waltz that originated in the latter period of the 18th century.
Cha-Cha-Cha
A rhythmic Latin-American dance that is energetic with movements that can be both fast and slow.
Jive
A lively Latin American ballroom dance style that was perfected in the 30s and 40s when dancers moved mostly to jazz music.
Paso Doble
An International Latin dance style based on the sounds and movements used in Spanish bullfights, with less emphasis on hip movement.
Rumba
A sensual dance from the International Standard and American styles known for slow hip movements and steps coordinated on a slow rhythm.
Samba
A beautiful and energetic dance with many forms, where steps differ between the ballroom style and traditional style samba choreography.
Lambada
A sexy and stylish Brazilian dance performed in couples or groups, popularized by the track 'Lambada' by the group 'Kaoma'.
Ballet
A dance style developed in France and Russia that portrays a story or idea through dancers gliding over the floor; categories include Classical, Neoclassical, and Contemporary.
Breakdance
A male-dominated form of street dance from hip-hop culture characterized by 'dance battles', 'Downrock', and the 'Freeze'; it was popularized by Michael Jackson.
Hip-Hop Dance
A street dance style originating in the 1970′s in New York that includes maneuvers like popping and locking and is characterized by attitude and colorful dance-wear.
Tap Dance
A dance originating in the United States where the emphasis is on foot movements that create a tapping sound due to metal plates on the soles of the shoes.
Jazz Dance
An energetic and graceful dance with origins in African-American culture, featuring steps like the ball change, pivot step, toe rise, pirouettes, and the jazz walk.
Modern Dance

Garba

Kathakali
A form of dance drama from Kerala, India, featuring striking makeup, elaborate procedures, and large decorative headgear.
Folk Dance

Ethnic Dance

Dugso
