What is a hearing aid

small electronic device that amplifies sound for individuals with hearing loss, typically worn in or behind the ear.

Receives sound and converts it into electrical signal that delivered to the amplifier

Amplifier

Increases the intensity of the electrical impulses and delivers that signal to the receiver

Receiver

kinda like a speaker converts the amplifier’s electrical impulses back into an acoustic signal

Batteries

power source to operate hearing aid

Earmold

funnels sound to the ear, behind the ear mold not every hearing aid needs one

Indications for the hearing aid

BTE = behind the ear

hooks over top of ear, most flexible, most durable, large controls, long battery life. con-they are big

RIC = Receiver in the Canal

plastic tube with a thin wire used ti connect the hearing aid to the earpiece, mild to moderate hearing loss,

ITE = In the ear (recommended for children)

device that sits in the outer portion of the full shell in ear) easier to handle, large battery

ITC = In the canal

custom fit, partially in the ear canal with a small portion showing in the outer ear

CIC= Completely in canal

small plastic handle that shows on the outside of the ear canal used to insert and remove hearing aid, good for localization

IIC = Invisible in the canal

fitted and inserted deep into the ear canal that other styles

Bone - conduction

Bone conduction hearing for people who can’t hold device in place, vibrates the bone taking advantage and soft band fitting

can hear and anything underline
