How many megabiodiversity countries are there in the world?
12, and Malaysia is one of them.
Malaysia is considered an ideal habitat for a variety of organisms. Why is that so?
It is due to its equatorial climate, which is the temperature it has due to its location at the equator.
What is biodiversity?
Biodiversity is the diversity of organisms, wether microorganisms, animals or plants.
Bonus: It exists as a result of the diversity of habitat and climate.
What are several importance of biodiversity?
Source of food (animals and plants)
Balance in nature (cycle of nutrients, and interaction between organisms)
Recreational places (areas rich in biodiversity)
Medical (herbs used for medicines)
Raw materials for industries (such as bamboo and wood, used for activities such as furniture making and to build buildings)
Education (increase knowledge and create new technology with scientific reaserch on different species)
What is an endemic species?
It is a species that lives in clusters withing a restricted habitat in a specific location.
Examples of endemic species in Malaysia
Rafflesia, pitcher plant, leatherback turtle, Malayan tiger and the Borneo Pygmy Elephant.
What are the two groups that animals can be classified into?
Vertebrates and invertebrates
