Globalization
The communication and assimilation among individuals, ethnicities, races, institutions, and governments of various nations, supported by technology and international trade.
Ethnocentrism
A biased perspective in which a person judges another culture according to the standards of his or her own culture.
Xenocentrism
The belief that foreign cultures, including their food, styles, practices, and ways of life, are better than one's own culture.
World Englishes
A concept referring to different varieties of English used throughout the world, such as Philippine English, which may lead to different meanings and uses of expressions.
Alone Together
A concept by Sherry Turkle describing a situation where people are physically together but mentally and emotionally disconnected because their attention is focused on their digital devices.
Intercultural Communication
The interaction between or among people from different cultures or backgrounds, encompassing both verbal and nonverbal communication.
Cultural Dimensions
Cultural values and beliefs that influence people's behaviors and attitudes in society.
Power Distance
A cultural dimension referring to the extent to which people accept the unequal distribution of power.
Individualism vs. Collectivism
A cultural dimension that examines whether people prioritize their individual interests or the interests of the group.
Masculinity vs. Femininity
A cultural dimension referring to values and social expectations within society.
Uncertainty Avoidance
A cultural dimension referring to how people respond to uncertainty and ambiguity.
Long-Term vs. Short-Term Orientation
A cultural dimension focusing on whether cultures prioritize future goals or more immediate outcomes.
Indulgence vs. Restraint
A cultural dimension examining the extent to which societies allow people to satisfy their desires and impulses.
