The Scientific Method
Is used to test the predictions of possible answers to questions about nature in ways we can duplicate or verify
Hypothesis
A tentative explanation of the observed phenomena. Must be carefully worded so that they form a testable statement. Must be formulated in a way that they can be falsified by experimentation or observation
Independent variable
The treatment or condition under study
Dependent variable
The event or condition that is measured or observed
Data
Factual information that can be observed as a result of the experiment
Scientific theory
When a hypothesis is not falsified after many years of testing and study; a phenomenon or set of phenomena that are accepted as fact
