What is required to become a private pilot?
At least 17, at least a 3rd class medical, read write and speak English, receive required ground and flight training endorsements, meet aeronautical experience requirements

What are private pilot limitations and privileges?
Limitations: May not pay less than pro rata share. Cannot fly passengers or property for compensation or hire.
Privileges: can demonstrate an aircraft to a buyer as long as they’re an aircraft salesperson and at least 200 hours logged. May be PIC towing glider. May be PIC in connection to a business as long as it’s incidental and doesn’t carry passengers or property for compensation or hire

How do you remain current?
Within preceding 24 calendar months you must complete a flight review in an aircraft rated by an authorized instructor and received a logbook endorsement
To carry passengers a pilot must complete 3 takeoff and landings within 90 days. Tailwheel and night flights must be completed 1 hour after sunset and 1 hour before sunrise

What is a special flight permit
May be issues to an aircraft that doesn’t meet applicable airworthiness requirements. Is normally for 1 flight to 1 airport.
What’s the difference between maintenance and preventative maintenance?
Maintenance is inspection, overhaul, repair and replacement of parts
Preventative maintenance is simple or minor preservation operations and the replacement of small standard parts
Can a private pilot perform preventative maintenance?
Yes
How do we keep our pilot certificate current?
A valid medical and flight review every 24 calendar months
Night definition and when can you perform required night landings?
Night = the time between evening civil twilight and morning civil twilight

What is an airworthiness directive? Is it mandatory?
FAA issued order to fix a known issue. It is mandatory
What kind of airworthiness directives are there?
Emergency - require immediate compliance before flight
One time - once complied with once, no need to do anything else
Recurring - must be complied with at the specified interval
When do you have to have an ELT in the airplane?
If you go further than 50 nautical miles of your home airport
When does an ELT need to be replaced or recharged?
Every 12 calendar months, after 1 hour of cumulative use, or after 50% of its battery life
Why would you do if you found some equipment was inoperative?
KMART
If that doesn’t apply, remove or deactivate it, then placard it

MEL is an FAA approved list that can be inoperative

A&P mechanics are the only people authorized to work on aircraft beyond preventative maintenance
An annual must be signed off by an A&P with an IA (higher level mechanic)
What are the VFR cruising altitudes?
Magnetic course 0-197 = odd thousands + 500
Magnetic course 180-359 = even thousands + 500
Can you drop objects from an aircraft?
Yes, as long as appropriate precautions have been met to do so safely
