History
The record of past events that were arranged by a sovereign, all-wise God for His glory.
Bible
The most important written record available to mankind.
Pentateuch
The first five books of the Bible.
Gospels
The books that give an authoritative account of the life of Jesus.
Flood
The event from which eight people were spared because Noah obeyed God.
Ararat
The mountains in present-day Turkey where the Ark came to rest.
Mesopotamia
Often referred to as the "cradle of civilization," this area in the Fertile Crescent is where archaeologists believe written language began.
Euphrates River
The river in present-day Iraq where Noah's descendants eventually settled on the fertile Plain of Shinar.
Babel
The site where God saw the pride of the people and their tower, leading Him to confuse their language and scatter them over the earth.
Sumerian civilization
The first major Mesopotamian civilization.
Cuneiform
Characters formed by pressing a stylus into wet clay.
Sargon of Akkad
The ruler who conquered the Sumerian city-states and unified Mesopotamia.
Old Babylonian Empire
The empire located in the center of modern-day Iraq where Hammurabi organized one of the first law codes.
Hammurabi
The individual who organized one of the first law codes in recorded history.
Kassites and Hittites
The groups that conquered the Old Babylonian Empire and established their own empire during the eighteenth century B.C.
Assyrians
The people who established Nineveh as their capital in Mesopotamia.
Chaldeans
The people who came out of the Arabian Desert and helped overthrow the Assyrians in 612 B.C.
