Moment of a Force
The turning effect produced when a force is exerted on an object.
Moment (M)
The turning effect of a force about a pivot, calculated as M = F × d, where M is the moment in newton metres (Nm), F is the force in newtons (N), and d is the perpendicular distance from the force to the pivot in metres (m).
Principle of Moments
If an object is balanced, the total clockwise moment about a pivot equals the total anticlockwise moment about that pivot.
Centre of Gravity
The point through which the weight of an object acts.
