What is Mass?
A measurement of how strongly an object resists being moved when it’s pushed.
What is Volume
The amount of space an object takes up.
What is Precision?
An Agreement between repeated measurements
What is Accuracy?
An agreement between a measurement and the true value
What is an exact number?
It results from counting objects or part of a definition. EX: 10 fingers.
What is an inexact number?
It results from a measurement or observation and contains some uncertainty.
What is a significant figure?
The number of digits in a value, often a measurement, that contribute to the degree of accuracy of the value, including one estimated digit (the last number).
When are zeros significant?
When they are between 2 non-zeros.
At the end of a number with a decimal place.
When are zeros not significant?
At the beginning of a number.
at the end of a number that does not have a decimal.
What is the rule for multiplication/division?
the answer needs the same number of sig figs as the original number with the fewest sig figs
What is the rule for addition/subtraction?
The answer has the same number of decimal places as the original number with the fewest decimal places.
