What are the 4 things that all organisms need?
Air Water Space to live Nutrients
What cellular activities require water?
DNA Replication, cell division, protein synthesis, breaking down food, transport nutrients and waste
Why do organisms need nutrients?
to survive, grow, and reproduce
why do plants need nutients?
for cellular processes
what does pace provide for organisms
a location to grow, explore resources, and find energy
what are the 8 characteristics of life
Cells, Homeostasis, Energy, Reporduce, Traits, Grow, Respond, Change
define autotroph
producers (plants and some bacteria)
define heterotroph
consumers (carnivore, herbivore, omnivore)
what is atp
adenosine triphosphate (The energy currency of the cell that powers everything your body does.)
define cell
specialized cells to carry out specific functions
tissues
groups of cells that are simlilar in shape and function
organs
tissues that are organzsed into larger structures that have one fucntion
organ system
groups of organs that hjave related functions
oragism
any living thing
what are the differences between prokaryotes and eukaryotes?
prokarkyotes are simple unicellular organisms and no membrane bound organelles (all prokaryotes are bacteria) and eurkaryotes are compley organisms(most living things) and can be unicellular or multicellular. contain organelles surrounded by membranes
which process is responsible for cell differentiation?
gene expression, which is a process which a gene is switched on or off resulting in different proteins being made.
what are stem cells?
can become any cell in the body because they have not undergone the process of cell differentiation yuet. they can be used to repair damaged organs and cure some diseases. scientists are still studing how to regrow limbs using stem cells.
what are neurons?
long and thin cell that sends info from one part of the body to another
what are red blood cells?
carry oxygen throughout the body
what is a sperm cell?
fertilizes eggcell and strong tail for quick swimming.
formula for photosynthesis
6CO2 + 6H20 + Sunlight —> C6H12O6 + 6O2
formula for cellular respiration
C6H12O6 + 6O2 —> 6CO2 + 6H20 + ATP
snake
bask in sun
kangaroo
powerful legs for jumping
spider
sense vibrations in the ground
monkey
opposable thymbs
