Ionising Radiation Protection Act, 2005
The formal title of the legislation (No. 16 of 2005) enacted to regulate radiation protection and establish the relevant Authority.
Radiation Protection Authority
The statutory body established under Part II of the Act to oversee radiation protection functions.
Board
The governing body of the Radiation Protection Authority, responsible for decision-making and overseeing the Authority's functions.
Secretariat
The administrative arm of the Radiation Protection Authority, established to handle day-to-day operations and functions.
Executive Director
The lead official of the Secretariat, as defined under Section 19 of the Act.
Licence
The legal authorization required for specific activities related to radiation, which can be applied for, refused, amended, or transferred under Part IV.
Decommissioning
The regulatory process outlined in Section 27 for the safe and permanent withdrawal from service of a radioactive device.
Enforcement notices
Formal notices issued under Section 28 to compel compliance with the provisions or conditions of a licence.
Radiation safety officer
An officer authorized under Part V with specific powers to inspect facilities and a duty to report safety matters to the Board.
Seal of Authority
The official signet used by the Radiation Protection Authority for legal documentation as described in Section 17.
Environmental Protection and Pollution Control Act
The legislation from which Section 74 is repealed upon the enactment of the Ionising Radiation Protection Act, 2005.
Ionising Radiation Act
The previous legislation that is repealed and saved under Section 48 of the 2005 Act.
Radiation Protection Board
The predecessor body that is dissolved under Part VI, with its assets and staff being transferred to the new Authority.
