ATP
A source of high energy that cells can use. It has 3 phosphates attached to it.
ADP
A low energy molecule that has 2 phosphates attached to it.
Glucose (carbohydrate)
These molecules are most often used by the mitochondria to get the energy to create ATP
Energy Storing Reaction
ADP + P --> ATP
Energy Releasing Reaction
ATP --> ADP + P
Lipids
These molecules have the most energy in them, but are only sometimes used by the mitochondria to make ATP.
Protein
This is rarely ever used to create ATP.
