Dance

Folk Dance

Dances created and performed collectively by the ordinary people; considered the oldest form of dance.

Cordillera Groups (BIBAKIIG)

Composed of the Bontocs, Ifugao, Benguet, Apayao, Kalinga, Itneg, Ilonggot and Gaddang.

Ganza

Metal gongs used by Cordillera groups during rituals, festivities, and social gatherings.

Banga

A Kalinga dance where seven or eight pots are balanced on the heads of maidens to the beat of the gangsa as they fetch water.

Bendayan

Also called Bendian, a circle dance from Benguet Province used to celebrate the arrival of successful headhunters.

Ragragsakan

A Kalinga dance portraying industrious women carrying baskets on their heads, imitating the climb up the Rice Terraces.

Pandanggo sa Ilaw

A dance from Mindoro using tinghoy or oil lamps placed on the top of the head and one on each hand.

Cariñosa

The famous national dance of the Philippines depicting a Filipina maiden's modesty and humility using a fan and handkerchief.

Habanera

A piece of music named after Havana, Cuba; examples in the Philippines include Habanera Botolena and Habasinan.

Kuratsa

A Filipino traditional dance of courtship in a moderate waltz style, commonly performed during festivals in Bohol and other Visayan towns.

Singkil

A Maranao dance involving a Princess leaping in and out of crisscrossed bamboo poles, often accompanied by a slave girl with a silk umbrella.

Sagayan

A Maranao warrior dance depicting Prince Bantugan's preparation for war, actual combat, and victory.

Kappa Malong Malong

Also called Sambi Sa Malong, this Maranao dance demonstrates many ways of wearing the tabular cloth known as a malong.

Asik

Binasuan
