Hip osteoarthritis

• joint degenerative disease (from aging, injury, obesity, genetics)

• Causes pain, stiffness, decreased ROM and makes it difficult to do phy activities

Total hip replacement

• If pain/condition of hip is very severe, total hip replacement surgery may be needed.

Ligaments of the pelvis

• anterior sacroiliac ligament

• Posterior sacroiliac ligament

• Inguinal ligament

• Sacrospinous ligament

• Ligament of head of femur (aka: ligamentum teres/ ligamentum capitis femoris)

Movements on the sacrum and pelvic bones @ SI Joints

• SI Joints are synovial gliding joints - allows movement while hip and back move.

Movements of pubic bones at pubic symphysis

P.S is a cartilaginous symphysis joint (amphiarthrotic)

• allows some but few movements

• Helps with passage of baby through birth canal

Movement of femur @ hip joint

• flexion/extension of femur @hip joint

• Abduction/adduction of femur @hip joint

• Internal (medial)/ external (lateral) rotation of femur @hip joint
