Ocular lens / Eyepiece
Closest to the eye; looked through to examine slides (10X).
Objective lens
Magnifies the slide.
Scanning Objective
Magnification of 4/5X.
Low Objective
Magnification of 10X.
High Objective
Magnification of 40X.
Stage
Surface on which the slide rests.
Mechanical Stage
Mechanism with two knobs that holds and smoothly moves the slide in the X or Y direction.
Stage clip
Holds the slide in place.
Arm
Supports the body of the microscope.
Coarse adjustment knob
Larger knob that moves the stage.
Fine adjustment knob
Smaller knob that allows small changes to focus.
Lamp
Light source (illuminator).
Condenser
Focuses light on the slide.
Iris diaphragm
Adjustable wheel underneath the stage that controls the amount of light passing through slides.
Nosepiece
Turret that holds the objective lenses.
