Axial
Main axis of body (head, neck and trunk)
Appendicular
Appendages (limbs)
Superior (cranial)
Towards the head or above
Inferior
Away from head or below
Ventral (anterior)
Toward front of body on in front of
Dorsal (Posterior)
Toward back of body or behind
Media
Towards midline or middle of body
Lateral
Away from midline or on outer sides
Intermediate
Between medial and lateral Structure
Proximinal
Closer to ongin of body part on point of attachment to appendage or trunk
Distal
Farther from ongin of body part on point of attachment to appendage or trunk
Superficial
Toward or at body surface
Deep
Away from body surface (more internal)
Body Plan
Flat surface where body or surface may be Cut for anotomical study
Sections
Cuts on sections made along a body plan
Sagital Plan
This devides body vertically into and right Plans
Midsagital (median) Plan
Lies on midline
Parasagital Plan
Not on midline
Frontal (cornal) plan
Divides body vertically into anterior and Posterior plans; produces a frontal or Coronal section
Transverse (horizontal) Plan
Divides body horizontally (90 degrees to Veritacal Plan) into superior and inferior parts; produces a cross section
