pH Scale
A scale ranging from 0 to 14 that indicates how strongly acidic or alkaline a substance is, or if it is neutral.
Acids
Substances with a pH below 7 that turn universal indicator red, orange, or yellow, with the strongest acids having a pH of 0.
Alkalis
Substances with a pH above 7 that turn universal indicator blue or purple, with the strongest alkalis having a pH of 14.
Neutral Substance
A substance (such as pure water) with a pH of 7 that turns a universal indicator green.
Neutralization Reaction
A reaction that occurs when acids react with alkalis to form a neutral solution with a pH of 7.
General Neutralization Formula
Acid+Alkali→Salt+Water
Indicators
Substances that change color depending on whether they are in an acidic or alkaline environment.
